You might protest at this point, noting that the title of Liddel Scott Jones (LSJ) is A Greek-English Lexicon. It’s limited to the New Testament, Apostolic Fathers, and various New Testament apocryphal works. Hence, BDAG-one of the most important Greek lexicons-is titled A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature. Lexicons are specialized dictionaries with narrower, but more comprehensive coverage of a particular corpus or author. That’s why most English dictionaries are termed “dictionary,” as well as Brill’s Greek-English Dictionary of Ancient Greek (GE). Dictionaries are used when the reference work in question is designed to provide broad, general coverage of the language and for small more glossary-like works. What catches me out when searching and cutting and pasting numbers, is that some tools use g and h prefixes while other tools dont have a prefix and just use the number (obviously the publishers dont care about other reference documents when dealing with hard copy but in an electronic environment.) But its just fabulous being able to search multiple resources quickly and its only a couple of clicks to add or remove the letter as required. ![]()
